Seth Thill, poet, and Waterloo Public Library librarian gave two standout workshops in September. The slides are attached if you attended or are curious about poetry and chapbooks.
Chapbooks aren’t just for poetry. They are for any small collection, usually 20 to 40 pages of work. Chapbooks often contain artwork, but there’s no requirement to have art.
Since we began planning this series, I’ve been particularly looking forward to this chapbook session. As a Hartman Reserve Center visiting Artist in 2021, Seth produced a stunning chapbook of his poetry and art. I knew Seth would give the inside scoop on his process. He did not disappoint.
I’ve got a chapbook passion project: cooking. Seth gave me so many good ideas about how to finish the project. One of the key takeaways for me is that at least three presses offer subscriptions to chapbooks: Belle Point Press, Newfound Journal, and Ugly Duckling Press. I’m going to check out these presses and subscribe to one of them. Subscriptions start at $45.
Next up at Author Seedbed, we continue the publishing journey with Michele Shriver sharing her self-publishing journey. Michele will give a comprehensive overview of publishing ebooks and print books on Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 2 to 3:30, at the Waterloo Public Library, meeting room AB.
